Priorities

January is over. Tuesday was Groundhog Day. Punxsutawney Phil did not see his shadow, so it’s an early spring for us. Sunday is the Superbowl. And it looks like Ted and Hill are the winners.

Today is a new day and tomorrow seems to come even sooner. I don’t think any of us haven’t asked, “Where did the time go?” And as it goes, our wheels keep spinning. We fill up our days ticking off items on our to-do lists. Ever important appointments, chores, errands.  Through it all, it’s important to keep our priorities in order. Jesus told us, “Seek the kingdom of God first and His righteousness, and all things will be added to you.” [Matthew 6:33]

Our priorities tend to get lost in the fog of life. Between the distractions of life and the ever-wandering heart of man, we place the kingdom of God way down on our priority list when it should be at the top. My prayer for us all is that as we study the Gospel of John, the beauty and eternal worth of our Savior helps to remind us of the importance of time spent with God in the Word and in prayer, and leads us to reset our priorities. After all, what is at stake here?

Watch as the Son of God moved in redemptive history. Remember the price that was paid for you. Know the love of God through the Son and hear His word in Mark 1:15, “The time is fulfilled and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the Gospel.” May the Lord help us keep our priorities in order.
